NEWSLETTER 02 / 2024

Dear readers, friends and colleagues,

Art is Peace - this is how Jon Fosse sums it up in his message for this year's World Theatre Day. The ITI General Secretariat has just announced the playwright, writer, translator and Nobel Prize winner for Literature as the author of the 2024 message. As a global initiative, World Theatre Day has been celebrated annually on March 27 since 1962. We look forward to publishing the German translation of Jon Fosse's message in the next few weeks.

ITI is hiring! We are currently looking for a new director of the ITI German Centre from 2025. We look forward to receiving applications by March 1, 2024.

The Theater and Translation department invites you to the first LESERAUM of the year on February 14, this time with Felicia Zeller and moderated by Ulrike Syha. We are also approaching the application deadline for the International Workshop for Translators in Mülheim on February 15.

Academy Fellow Nora Tormann talked to artist Carolina Mendonça in the ITI Journal 4# about safe(r) spaces in the performing arts, their conditionality and their potential as a place for negotiating conflicts. The conversation took place in the framework of the ITI Annual Conference 2023 and is now available on our website. We would also like to recommend the production "Happy Birthday to me" by Acadamy Fellow Ching-Wen Pen at Frankfurt LAB to anyone who is in Frankfurt am Main between March 1 and 3.
More information and news from our network are following.

What is the difference between birthday cakes in Taiwan and in Germany? How is the weather in Frankfurt and Belarus? Do you also play “hit the pot” in Russia when celebrating a child's birthday?
